Online Flirting – A New Art Form

Many of the same things work for online flirting that work for “Traditional” flirting and all relationships begin with successful flirting.  Flirting is an art that requires oozing confidence without being over-the-top.  If you go too far, he will objectify you as a mere sex kitten.  If you don’t go far enough, he will interpret your aloofness as disinterest.  So how do you achieve that half way point between too sexual and couldn't-care-less without using eye contact or body language?  All you have is a computer, an Internet connection and membership to an online dating site, right?

Here are some tips for effective online flirting:

1.     Have fun!  Be light-hearted, funny and entertaining.  Make him eager to talk with you again.  Flirting is playful.

2.     Ooze confidence.  Successful flirts have a positive outlook on life.  You need to transmit that “feel good” factor.  An optimistic and emotionally available attitude attracts men like flowers attract butterflies.

3.     Compliment him…and do it sincerely.  Nothing opens doors like making him feel good about himself.  If you all have not met yet, he will be excited about the opportunity. And once there is a romantic connection, he  will want to spend more time with you.  Giving compliments is also a way of gauging confidence. If a man cannot take a nice compliment without downplaying himself, he may not be someone whom you would want to get involved.

4.     Listen…listen….listen.  Pay attention to what he says and ask appropriate questions.  Get him to open up and talk about himself (but not in an interview-like fashion).  Make him feel like he is interesting (assuming that he is) and that you want to get better acquainted.

5.     Send an email after you chat.  This ranks right up there with sending a thank you note for a gift and it is vital to successful flirting.

6.  Don’t be rude.  Flirting does not include being sexually explicit nor taking offense if the man isn’t responding to you. If he isn’t interested, take the hint and move on to the next prospect.  If you get many rejections, you should probably consider a new approach to flirting.

Don’t try to go too fast.  Flirting is the first step to a successful relationship.
